Camera or microphone fails before recording
Check that the device is connected and not muted. Close applications that can occupy the camera or microphone. Allow access in both browser and operating-system settings, then select the intended device. Test again before a real question.
On mobile, use a browser listed in the official mobile guide and allow camera and microphone access. If the video is dark but the device works, adjust the light and test the frame. If a video prompt is silent, check speaker volume and the output device; that is different from a microphone that records no sound.
A permission change or browser restart during setup is different from abandoning an active recording. Do not repeatedly refresh a real-question screen to try to fix sound without checking the stage and support instructions.
Connection or browser is unreliable
Run Tech Check on the intended setup. Close unnecessary downloads and applications. If available, try a wired connection or a more stable personal device and network. Test the alternative before starting the interview.
The official guide identifies VPN and work-device restrictions as possible causes. Do not bypass required workplace security controls. Use an approved alternative or ask the relevant administrator or technical support for help.
If a browser freezes, note the stage, visible message, question number, and approximate time. Use official technical support for recovery instructions. An upload indicator still working is not proof of a frozen browser; avoid interrupting it with repeated clicks or a restart.
Disconnection between or during questions
The official recovery article says to return through the original invitation link. After a disconnection between questions, previous answers are saved and you can continue where you left off. This recovery behavior is not a guarantee that every interview permits a planned pause.
If the connection fails during a question, the guide says the answer was likely submitted and cannot be edited by going back. Continue the remaining questions and contact Hiringplatform support with the affected recording details. “Likely submitted” is not proof that the recording is complete or usable.
Do not assume a browser refresh deletes an answer, resets a timer, or creates another attempt. The hiring organization decides on redos and extra attempts. Report a technical issue, but do not promise yourself that a replacement will be granted.
Use the right support channel
VidCruiter’s applicant support page directs candidates to “Send us a message” on the application page and offers technical support around the clock. Use the official support center if you cannot access that page. Describe the problem and stage without sending passwords or unnecessary private information.
For a deadline extension, accommodation, or application-status question, contact the hiring organization through its stated channel. Technical support provides software help; it does not make hiring decisions or know the employer’s application status.
If the completion page is missing, use the latest invitation or reminder link and check whether the final step still needs Save and Complete. Follow the next lesson for submission checks. Avoid starting duplicate applications as a troubleshooting method.
Worked examples
These scenarios are hypothetical teaching examples. Use your own facts and decisions.
The connection failed halfway through an answer.
Weak answer or plan
I will refresh until I get a fresh attempt, then forget the first recording.
Improved answer or plan
I will return through the original invitation link. I will follow the available screen, complete the remaining questions, and report the affected recording and time to technical support. I will not assume the answer was deleted or that I can edit it.
Why this works
The plan follows the official recovery guidance while preserving uncertainty about the affected answer.
Put it into practice
Write a useful technical problem report
Describe a hypothetical or real issue. Do not put passwords, private invitation tokens, or confidential answer text in these fields.
Notes are not saved or sent. They clear when you leave or reload this page. Copy any notes you need before you leave.
Check your work
- Have you separated a technical problem from a hiring-status request?
- Have you avoided assuming a deleted answer or guaranteed redo?
- Can support identify the affected stage from your report?
