Choose a supported setup
The official preparation guide recommends a computer with a webcam and headset. A mobile device with a front-facing camera also works. You do not need to buy a camera if your existing device produces usable sound and video.
The guide lists current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on computers. It lists Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera on iPhone, and Chrome or Firefox on Android. Check the linked official guides for changes and use a browser supported on your device.
Run Tech Check on the same network and equipment you will use for the interview. It checks the connection, camera, and microphone. A successful check is useful evidence about the setup at that moment; it cannot guarantee that a later network interruption will not occur.
Make the recording easy to hear and see
Place the device on a stable support, with the lens near eye level. Put a light source in front of you and avoid a bright window behind you. Check that the frame includes your face comfortably. A quiet, simple space is sufficient.
Record a short answer at your normal speaking volume. Listen for missing words, echoes, fan noise, and a microphone that is too far away. A headset can help, but test the actual result instead of assuming it is better.
Choose comfortable clothing that fits the role and any instructions. Use a natural posture and gestures. You can look towards the lens when useful without holding an unnatural fixed gaze. These are communication suggestions, not requirements for an automated appearance score.
Separate the practice question from real attempts
The interview instruction stage includes an equipment test and practice question. Use that stage to check the recording before answering real prompts. The official guide states that the practice question will not be used to evaluate your candidacy.
Confirm that you are still in practice mode. A practice question is not an extra attempt at a real interview question and does not reveal the employer’s question set. This course does not claim that every practice video is deleted or that every employer uses identical screens.
Use an interview-day checklist
Arrange the setup before the deadline is close. If you change your device, browser, headset, network, or room, repeat the relevant checks. Keep the invitation available so that you can return through the correct link if a problem occurs.
- Confirm the role, format, deadline, and any accommodation instructions.
- Connect power and close other camera or microphone applications.
- Reduce notifications and ask for quiet where possible.
- Check browser and operating-system permissions.
- Run Tech Check, then record and review the practice question.
- Read the real-question controls before starting a timer.
- At the end, complete the required final page and check the completion message.
Worked examples
These scenarios are hypothetical teaching examples. Use your own facts and decisions.
Your practice video has an echo.
Weak answer or plan
I will speak louder during the interview.
Improved answer or plan
I will check the selected microphone, reduce speaker feedback, and try a headset if available. I will make another practice recording and listen before starting the real question.
Why this works
The second check tests whether the change fixed the problem, instead of adding noise.
Put it into practice
Make a setup decision
Test the setup you can use. Write observations rather than a simple pass or fail. Fix one issue and test again.
Notes are not saved or sent. They clear when you leave or reload this page. Copy any notes you need before you leave.
Check your work
- Can a listener hear every sentence?
- Did you test on the intended network and device?
- Are you clearly in practice mode before making adjustments?
