UK Civil Service Practice Tests: All 8 Online Tests in One Place

Practise every online test the UK Civil Service commonly uses before you sit it: the Judgement Test, the Verbal and Numerical tests, the Management Judgement and Work Strengths tests, the Styles Assessment, and the Customer Service Skills and Casework Skills tests. The formats follow GOV.UK's guidance; every passage, table and scenario is Candidate Falcon's own. These are independent practice tests, not the real ones, and Candidate Falcon is not affiliated with the UK Civil Service.

Choose a test to practise

All eight tests are included in the 1 Game Platform Prep plan (from €12.99/month) when you choose the UK Civil Service tests as your one assessment platform, in All Games Platforms Prep together with every other platform, and in Full Access. See plans

Which tests you take

The job advert says which tests apply, and the scenarios match the level of the job. You take them through your Civil Service Jobs application centre.

How timing works

Most tests are untimed. Only the third part of the Customer Service Skills and Casework Skills tests has a limit, 10 minutes. GOV.UK suggests allowing at least an hour per test.

How results are used

Each test gives a percentile against other applicants. The recruiter sets the pass mark for the job, and for most tests a pass is banked for six months.

Civil Service practice tests

Eight tests, each with a free guide on its page. Practice runs need a plan that includes the UK Civil Service tests.

What you practise in each test

Each paragraph says where its facts come from: GOV.UK is GOV.UK's guidance for the real test, and Candidate Falcon is how our practice works.

The Judgement and Management Judgement tests

GOV.UKThe Judgement Test starts with a self-assessment, then gives workplace scenarios on the behaviours chosen for the job, three per behaviour, and you rate four actions each from Counterproductive to Effective; you can give the same rating twice. The Management Judgement Test has 15 management scenarios where you pick the action you would be most and least likely to take.

Candidate FalconJudgement Test: 6 self-assessment statements, then 9 scenarios (3 for each of 3 behaviours), untimed, at two grade bands. Management Judgement Test: 15 scenarios, three for each of the five aspects, untimed. Our own key explains why each action earns its rating; it is not GOV.UK's, which is not public.

The Verbal and Numerical tests

GOV.UKBoth are adaptive and untimed: a right answer can lead to a harder question. In the Verbal Test you decide whether a statement is true, false or cannot say from a passage; in the Numerical Test you read a table or chart and choose the answer.

Candidate FalconVerbal: 20 adaptive questions at three levels, untimed. Numerical: 20 adaptive questions at three levels, 5 options each, untimed. Every answer comes with a worked explanation after the run.

The Work Strengths Test and the Styles Assessment

GOV.UKThe Work Strengths Test has three parts: statements about how you work, 10 scenarios to rate and 5 to answer with most and least likely; the strengths depend on the grade. The Styles Assessment shows pairs of statements and asks which is more like you, and by how much.

Candidate FalconWork Strengths: 30 statements, then 10 scenarios to rate and 5 most/least scenarios, untimed. Styles: 36 pairs (each behaviour against every other once), untimed, about 10 minutes. You get an estimated profile; for the Styles Assessment there are no right answers, so we flag overuse of the middle option instead, as GOV.UK warns about it.

The Customer Service Skills and Casework Skills tests

GOV.UKBoth have three parts, and only the third is timed, at 10 minutes. Customer Service: reply to customer messages, rate actions in six scenarios, then numerical and data checks. Casework: judge statements about case papers, rate actions in six scenarios, then check or enter case details.

Candidate FalconCustomer Service: 6 customer queries, 6 scenarios, then 10 timed minutes. Casework: One case file with 8 statements, 6 scenarios, then 10 timed minutes. The third part runs on a real 10-minute clock.

What practice can and cannot do

Candidate FalconPractice helps you learn each format, judge scenarios at the right level for your grade and keep accurate under the 10-minute clock. It cannot reveal GOV.UK's scoring key or your percentile, and a Candidate Falcon result is not a Civil Service score. For the interview stage, read our guide to the Civil Service Behaviours.

Civil Service practice FAQ

What does Candidate Falcon’s Civil Service practice cover?

All eight online tests GOV.UK lists as commonly used: the Verbal, Numerical, Judgement, Management Judgement and Work Strengths tests, the Styles Assessment, and the Customer Service Skills and Casework Skills tests. The formats follow GOV.UK’s guidance; every passage, table, scenario and scoring key is Candidate Falcon’s own.

Which Civil Service test should I practise?

The ones your job advert names. The Judgement Test is used for roles up to Grade 7, the Management Judgement Test for managers from EO to SEO, the Customer Service Skills Test for customer service roles at AA/AO and EO and the Casework Skills Test for casework roles at AO and EO. The Verbal, Numerical, Work Strengths and Styles tests can come up at any grade.

Are the practice tests timed?

Only where the real tests are. GOV.UK says the tests are untimed except the third part of the Customer Service Skills and Casework Skills tests, which lasts 10 minutes, so those parts run on a 10-minute clock here too. The other modules show the time you take, only so you can check your pace.

Is my practice result a Civil Service score?

No. The real tests give a percentile against other applicants, and the recruiter sets the pass mark for each job. Candidate Falcon shows your accuracy on the reasoning tests and your agreement with our own key on the judgement scenarios; the key is ours, not GOV.UK’s, which is not public.

Which plans include Civil Service practice?

All eight tests are included in 1 Game Platform Prep when you choose the UK Civil Service tests as your one platform, in All Games Platforms Prep with every other platform, and in Full Access.
