Spark Hire Setup and Interview-Day Checklist

Use a supported device and browser, allow camera and microphone access, and review a practice recording before the real interview. Clear sound and a stable connection matter more than an expensive recording space.

Choose and test your equipment

Spark Hire supports computers and compatible iOS or Android phones and tablets. A phone is a valid option if you do not have a webcam. Place it on a stable support and connect power if needed.

The current candidate browser guide recommends the latest Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Android, and Safari on iOS. Firefox is also compatible on computers. Check the linked official guide for current requirements. On iPad, turn off Safari Request Desktop Website if the site reports an unsupported browser.

Spark Hire lists minimum upload and download speeds of 2 Mbps each and recommends 5 Mbps each or higher. A speed result does not guarantee a stable connection. A hotspot is allowed, but can be less stable than wired or Wi-Fi access.

Make the recording clear and comfortable

Use light in front of you. Avoid a bright window behind you. Position the lens near eye level and test the frame in the same seat you will use for the interview. A simple background is sufficient; you do not need a formal office.

Choose comfortable, clean clothing that suits the role and any employer instructions. Check reflections in glasses and noise from accessories. These are practical presentation checks, not claims about automated appearance scores.

Tell others when you need quiet. Silence notifications, connect power, and close applications that use the camera or microphone. If your circumstances make the setup difficult, ask the employer about an appropriate alternative.

Use the Spark Hire practice recording

Complete the platform equipment check, then make a practice video. Speak at your normal volume. Play it back and listen for missing words, background noise, and an incorrect microphone selection.

Spark Hire says practice videos are not saved or shared with the company. They are separate from real interview takes. A successful practice video checks your setup; it does not reveal the employer’s questions or prove that every later upload will succeed.

Interview-day sequence

Use this list before you reveal the first real question. Repeat a setup check if you change your device, browser, microphone, or location.

  1. Check the role, deadline, and time zone. Keep the invitation available.
  2. Connect power and close camera or microphone applications.
  3. Check lighting, frame, sound, and connection in the interview setup.
  4. Read expectations and use the practice recording.
  5. Read the settings before each question. Review each current answer before submission.
  6. Use breaks between questions if needed. Return before the deadline.
  7. Follow the end screen and check that no response or upload action remains.

Worked examples

These are teaching examples. Use your own facts and decisions.

The picture is clear, but the practice answer is silent.

Weak answer or plan

The camera works, so I can begin.

Improved answer or plan

I will select the intended microphone, check browser and device permissions, and make another practice recording. I will begin only when the sound is usable.

Why this works

A picture cannot confirm that the microphone works.

Put it into practice

Test the space you will use

Make a short practice recording with your chosen equipment. Change one problem, then test again.

Notes are not saved or sent. They clear when you leave or reload this page. Copy any notes you need before you leave.

Check your work

  • Can you hear the full answer at normal volume?
  • Is the device stable and powered?
  • Do you know which browser and microphone you used?
