Johnson & Johnson HireVue Interview: The Pre-Recorded Interview Explained
Candidate Falcon
Editorial Team

Johnson & Johnson runs its interviews digitally, and many candidates, including interns, start with a pre-recorded interview: J&J sends the questions, you record your answers, and you can re-record each answer twice before submitting. J&J's own pages do not name the platform, but HireVue lists Johnson & Johnson as a customer, which is why many candidates search for a "J&J HireVue". This guide covers what J&J says, the questions to prepare and how to practise.
Candidate Falcon is independent and is not affiliated with Johnson & Johnson or HireVue. The questions below are preparation themes, not leaked or confirmed J&J questions.
What J&J Says About Its Pre-Recorded Interview
From J&J's "How we hire" page and its internship FAQ:
- Interviews are digital. J&J says all its interviews are currently conducted digitally. The interview is step four of five: get inspired, explore roles, apply, interview, offer.
- Pre-recorded format. You record your answers to questions J&J sends you.
- Two re-records. You can review your answers and re-record them twice before submitting.
- About 10 minutes. J&J says submissions are usually around 10 minutes long.
- Live interviews too. J&J's live video interviews take between 30 minutes and an hour.
- Same format for interns. J&J's internship FAQ describes the same pre-recorded interview. For North American summer internships, applications open between August and November.
J&J's hiring FAQs also say accommodations are available, including additional time for an assessment or interview, or an alternative format. Ask before you start if you need one.

What J&J Says It Looks For
- Authenticity. J&J's application tips say being authentic and genuine is one of the most important things to them.
- The Credo. J&J's own interview advice says its Credo guides everything the company does, so read it before your interview.
- Behavioural answers that show learning. J&J tells candidates to expect behavioural questions and to focus on what they learned from challenges, not just the challenges themselves.
Johnson & Johnson HireVue Questions to Prepare
J&J does not publish its pre-recorded questions. Prepare real examples for these themes:
Motivation and the Credo
- Why Johnson & Johnson?
- Why this role and this part of the business?
- Which part of J&J's Credo means the most to you, and why?
Behavioural examples
- Tell us about a challenge you faced and what you learned from it.
- Describe a time you worked with a team to reach a goal.
- Tell us about a time you had to adapt to a big change.
- Describe a time you made a mistake. What did you do next?
- Tell us about a time you put a patient, customer or user first.
Judgment and integrity
- Describe a time you had to make a decision that was right but not easy.
- Tell us about a time you raised a concern or disagreed respectfully.
Growth
- What is a strength you would bring to this team?
- Tell us about feedback you received and how you used it.
Make Every Answer Show What You Learned
J&J's advice is specific: focus on what you learned from a challenge, not on the challenge itself. A simple structure for its behavioural questions:
- Situation, in one or two sentences.
- What you did, most of the answer.
- The result.
- What you learned and how you use it now. This is the part J&J points to.
With roughly 10 minutes for the whole submission, keep each answer tight. Two re-records are useful for fixing a clear problem, such as a missing result, not for chasing a perfect take.
How to Practise for the J&J Pre-Recorded Interview
- Read J&J's Credo and pick the parts that genuinely connect to your experience.
- Prepare four or five real examples, each ending with what you learned.
- Record yourself with a timer, then practise using no more than two re-records per answer, as in the real interview.
- Answer in your own words. J&J values authenticity, and memorised scripts work against it.
