Memorize relationships, not every pixel
Trying to photograph the entire image mentally is inefficient. Encode a small landmark map:
- the four corners;
- one distinctive feature near the center;
- strong color or line boundaries;
- objects that continue across tile edges;
- the relative order of two or three major regions.
Say the map internally as positions: “blue upper left, face center-right, dark band along bottom.” This gives reconstruction a structure.
Use edges as evidence
During reconstruction, a tile has two kinds of information: what it depicts and how its edges continue. A visually plausible tile can still be wrong if lines, colors, or object contours fail to connect with its neighbors.
Prioritize pieces with distinctive boundaries. Large areas of sky, wall, or texture are less constrained and can be placed after the informative landmarks.
Separate target planning from board movement
Knowing where a tile belongs does not mean you can move it there immediately. If the interface uses sliding movement, plan the route of the open space as well as the destination of the target tile.
Before acting, identify:
- the next tile worth fixing;
- its target position;
- the path needed to bring the movable space next to it;
- whether the sequence will disturb an already reliable section.
Build stable regions
Complete a corner or edge region, then protect it when possible. Repeatedly dismantling solved sections creates memory and movement errors at the same time.
If the board becomes confusing, return to the strongest landmark rather than guessing at low-information texture tiles.
A two-stage practice plan
First practice image encoding without a timer. After viewing an image, list five positional facts and check them. Then practice reconstruction while tracking unnecessary reversals and broken solved regions.
Only after both stages are reliable should you combine them under time pressure. This reveals whether a miss came from faulty memory or inefficient movement.
Avoid imported rules
Do not assume PuzzlePicture uses the same movement rules as a toy sliding puzzle or that a preview is always unlimited. Read the tutorial in the version you receive. Candidate Falcon simulations are independent approximations for familiarization.
