Deloitte Job Simulation: What Happens and How to Prepare

Editorial Team
The Deloitte Job Simulation is the third step of Deloitte UK's early careers process, after the application and the Immersive Online Assessment. If you pass it, the next step is the final stage. It is the first point where you write and record answers in your own words, so it feels quite different from the ranking and reasoning questions before it.
This guide covers what Deloitte says about the Job Simulation, how each format works and how to prepare. Deloitte's Candidate Zone is marked "Powered by Cappfinity", whose work simulations follow this format.
What the Job Simulation is
Deloitte says the Job Simulation focuses on your behavioural skills through work-based scenarios. You step into situations like those a new joiner might meet, and answer in four ways:
- Ranking response options in order of preference.
- Selecting the most appropriate response or responses.
- Writing responses.
- Recording video responses.
There are practice questions inside the assessment, so you can get used to the technology before the real questions begin. Deloitte's Candidate Zone also has resources specific to the simulation.
Scenarios that mention AI
Deloitte says some scenarios may refer to workplace tools like AI. You do not need any prior experience with AI, and you will not be asked to use an AI tool. What Deloitte assesses is how you consider using AI responsibly, not your technical knowledge.
So if a scenario involves a colleague using an AI tool to draft client work, for example, think about accuracy, confidentiality and checking the output, as you would in a real job.
Who takes it
Deloitte's Graduate, BrightStart, Industrial Placement and Summer Vacation Scheme programmes include the Job Simulation as step 3. For Spring into Deloitte, it is the last assessment step. Entry Level Apprentices, and some shorter work experience programmes, take a single OneStop assessment that combines the online assessment and the job simulation instead.
How long it takes
Deloitte's public page gives no duration. When we read its Candidate Zone in October 2026, it said to allow about 50 to 60 minutes. Check your invitation for the deadline.
The ranking and selection questions are behavioural, and Cappfinity's behavioural questions are usually untimed. Written and video answers have time limits for preparing and answering, and the assessment tells you how long you have before each one.
How to answer each format
Ranking and selecting responses
These work like the ranking task in the online assessment: read the scenario, read every option, then rank or choose. Two things help:
- Picture the role you applied for. A sensible action for an audit trainee may differ from one for a consultant.
- Do not rank by what sounds impressive. Rank by what you would really do in your first months. Cappfinity advises answering honestly rather than second-guessing what the employer wants.
Written responses
Deloitte does not say what the written questions look like. A safe assumption is a short reply to a work situation, such as an email to a colleague or a client. Aim for:
- A clear first sentence that answers the request.
- A short structure: what you will do, why and by when.
- A professional tone. Write as you would to a manager you have just met.
- A final check for typos before you submit, if time allows.
Video responses
For video answers you get a question, a short time to prepare and a set time to record. You speak to the camera rather than to a person.
- Answer the question in your first sentence, then give one example.
- Use a simple structure, such as the situation, what you did and the result.
- Stay inside the time limit. Practise answering in one to two minutes.
- Test your camera and microphone with the practice questions before you start.
The integrity rules
Deloitte's integrity guidance says AI tools must not be used while you complete the Job Simulation, as with its other online assessments, and that it has measures to detect AI-generated or AI-assisted responses. Write and speak your own answers. Deloitte also says that fee-charging preparation sites are not endorsed and often give misleading or false information, and that using answers from websites breaches its guidelines. Use outside practice, including ours, only to get used to the formats.
Results and what comes next
As after the online assessment, you receive a strengths feedback report, and Deloitte says it is not the outcome. The outcome comes by email within four weeks.
If you progress, the final stage has two parts:
- A topic discussion of around 30 to 40 minutes, which needs research beforehand on a topic Deloitte gives you.
- A skills and motivation interview of around 50 minutes.
Deloitte says the final stage is in person for Graduate, Entry Level Apprentice, Industrial Placement and BrightStart candidates. For the Summer Vacation Scheme it is virtual and includes only the interview.
Adjustments
Deloitte offers adjustments for its online assessments, including extra time. Its separate guidance on video interviews mentions extended preparation and response time. You request adjustments through the Reasonable Adjustments form in the stage's invitation, and you do not need a formal diagnosis. If you plan to use an AI tool as an adjustment, such as transcription, clear it with Deloitte's adjustments team first.
How to prepare for the Deloitte Job Simulation
- Read the Candidate Zone resources and do every in-assessment practice question.
- Prepare five real examples you can adapt: teamwork, a deadline, a mistake, adapting to change and helping someone.
- Know why you chose your service line. It helps in the simulation and again in the skills and motivation interview.
- Practise speaking to a camera with a time limit. Recording yourself is the quickest way to hear filler words and long introductions.
- Practise short professional emails. Give yourself five minutes to reply to a made-up request from a manager.
- Think about responsible AI use at work: checking outputs, protecting client data and being open about when you used a tool.
Candidate Falcon does not simulate the Deloitte Job Simulation. To rehearse recorded answers, the HireVue interview practice simulator gives you timed questions with a think-time countdown and feedback on each answer; it is built for HireVue interviews, but the skill of answering to a camera is the same. Our strengths-based interview questions article covers the kind of questions Cappfinity-style video stages ask, and the Deloitte interview questions page has more to practise. For the formats in the earlier online assessment, see Cappfinity practice.
FAQs
What is the Deloitte Job Simulation?
It is step 3 of Deloitte UK's early careers process. You work through workplace scenarios and answer by ranking options, choosing the best responses, writing answers and recording video answers. Deloitte says it focuses on behavioural skills.
How long is the Deloitte Job Simulation?
Deloitte's public page does not say. Its Candidate Zone said about 50 to 60 minutes when we read it in October 2026.
Is the Deloitte Job Simulation a HireVue interview?
Deloitte's early careers page does not name the platform. Its Candidate Zone is marked "Powered by Cappfinity", and the format (ranking, written and video answers in one assessment) matches Cappfinity's work simulations rather than a standalone HireVue interview. Deloitte uses HireVue elsewhere; see our Deloitte HireVue interview guide.
Do I need to know about AI for the Job Simulation?
No. Deloitte says scenarios may mention AI tools, but you need no prior experience and will not use an AI tool. It looks at how you think about using AI responsibly.
When will I hear back?
Deloitte says it will email you within four weeks. The strengths feedback report you receive is not the outcome.
