Deloitte Canada Plum Assessment: What It Is and What Comes Next

You applied to Deloitte in Canada and an email arrived asking you to complete a Plum assessment. This guide explains where that step sits in Deloitte Canada's process, what the Plum survey asks you to do, what candidates report from 2024 to 2025, and how to prepare.
Deloitte Canada does not name Plum on its careers pages, so we label every source: what Deloitte says, what Plum says and what candidates report.
The short answer
- It is the Plum Discovery Survey, a roughly 25-minute online survey with preference questions, grid puzzles and workplace scenarios.
- Deloitte Canada says some roles require an online assessment. Candidates report that for many roles it is Plum, sent soon after the application.
- The HireVue video interview comes next for those selected. Not everyone who completes Plum gets one.
- There are no genuine Plum answers. Two of the five sections have no right answers, and the role profile you are compared with is not public.
Where Plum fits in Deloitte Canada's process
Deloitte Canada's student recruitment page describes these steps:
- Apply with your cover letter, resume and unofficial transcript in one PDF.
- Online assessment, for some roles. The page says only that "some roles may also require you to complete an online assessment".
- First-round interview: if selected, a digital, on-demand video interview through HireVue.
- Second round, which may include behavioural or case interviews, then an offer.
Candidates fill in the gap at step 2:
- Plum arrives quickly. In July 2024, a former Deloitte employee who had moved to Canada said that every time they applied for an IT Analyst role, a Plum email followed straight away.
- It can come in two emails. In September 2024, applicants for AI and machine learning roles received a first email saying a Plum link would follow; the link arrived a day later.
- It is sent to many applicants. In January 2024, a student who applied to several Deloitte Canada internships received the Plum profile for every one. A commenter's three applications all went to Plum too.
What happens after the Plum assessment
Candidates describe two outcomes:
- A HireVue invitation. The January 2024 student later received a HireVue invitation for one position, mostly in Financial Advisory. Others reported HireVue invitations in January 2025.
- Silence. In October 2024, a 2025 consulting new grad applicant had heard nothing a month after Plum. A commenter's experience: if no interview invitation arrives within about a week of the posting closing, assume the role has moved on.
Experience alone does not carry you past this step. The former Deloitte employee, with more than six years in a similar role at another member firm, never got beyond Plum. Plum compares your profile with the Talents Deloitte set for the role, so a strong resume and a weak match can both be true.

What is in the Plum assessment
The Plum Discovery Survey has five sections, and Plum's help center describes how you answer each one.

Your Plum profile can follow you
Plum lets you link one profile to several applications, and a retake is only possible a year after your last attempt. Two consequences for Deloitte applicants:
- Applying to several Deloitte roles usually means the same profile is compared with each role's criteria.
- A profile from another employer can carry over. A 2024 applicant reported that the Plum profile they had completed for another company was sent to Deloitte automatically.
So take the survey once, carefully, before your first Plum application of the season.
How to prepare for the Deloitte Canada Plum assessment
- Check the deadline in the email. Plum's survey is not timed, but take it rested, on a laptop, in one sitting if you can.
- Practise grid-sequence puzzles. They are the only sections with a single right answer. Check one feature at a time: how many squares are shaded, where they are and which way they move.
- Read every scenario response before choosing. Picture a capable first-year consultant: the best responses deal with the problem, respect the client and colleagues and keep the work moving.
- Answer the statements honestly and consistently. Similar statements come back against different ones, so answering for effect tends to produce contradictions.
- Prepare for HireVue at the same time. If you are selected, the video interview can arrive soon after. Deloitte Canada recommends using the practice questions first.

Does Deloitte Canada use Plum?
Candidates on r/deloitte report a Plum assessment after applying to Deloitte in Canada, for internships, new grad programmes and experienced roles, from 2024 to 2025. Deloitte Canada's careers page says some roles require an online assessment but does not name the provider.
Does everyone get the Deloitte Plum assessment?
Not every role, according to Deloitte Canada's page, but candidates report receiving it for most of their applications. Receiving it is not a sign of progress by itself.
What comes after the Plum assessment at Deloitte?
For candidates selected for a first-round interview, a HireVue video interview, according to Deloitte Canada. Candidates report that some applicants never hear back after Plum.
Do I have to retake Plum for every Deloitte application?
Usually not. Plum lets you link the same profile to other applications, and a retake is possible one year after your last attempt.
