pymetrics Results: The Trait Report and Fit Score Explained

You finish the pymetrics games and a report describes you as, say, cautious with risk and quick to learn from feedback. Then the employer replies with a yes or a no. This guide explains how pymetrics results work: what the trait report shows, what the employer sees, whether there is a pymetrics score to aim for, and what to do next.

The short answer

pymetrics produces two kinds of result. You get a trait report that describes how you played. The employer gets a fit score that says how closely your play matches its own high performers. They are not the same thing, no pass mark is published, and a fit score only applies to the job it was built for.

Two kinds of pymetrics results

Your candidate trait report

pymetrics' 2018 candidate FAQ, in a copy hosted by an employer, said it tells you everything it assesses at the end, in a full report. Harver, which has owned pymetrics since August 2022, says every job seeker receives immediate results and feedback, and its gamified assessments page shows a candidate trait report.

The details come mainly from prep sites. One says the report defines each trait, shows where you fall on it and explains why it can matter at work. Another says some employers give no report at all, only a yes or no.

The employer's fit score

pymetrics' patent and a 2021 research paper co-written by pymetrics staff describe the employer's side. For each role, an "in group" of 50 to 100 of the employer's high performers plays the games. A model learns how their play differs from an "out group" drawn from other players, and your play then gets a fit score from 0 to 100%.

So the fit score is not a grade on the games themselves. It measures similarity to one group of people in one job. Harver's page also mentions a recruiter dashboard and a job-match report for internal moves, which suggests employers can compare one person's results against several roles.

The pymetrics traits

pymetrics' 2018 FAQ spoke of more than 50 traits, and prep sites count about 90. Harver now groups them into nine categories. Harver does not say which games feed which category, so the right-hand column below is our reading of the research tasks behind the games, not a published mapping.

Keypresses, a test of how fast you can tap, does not fit neatly into any one category. For what each game asks you to do, see the free pymetrics test guide.

A trait in your report is a description, not a mark. Being high or low on risk tolerance, for example, is neither good nor bad in itself; it only matters in relation to the people the employer's model was built from.

Is there a pymetrics score or pass mark?

There is no published pass mark. The fit score runs from 0 to 100%, but pymetrics does not publish where employers draw the line, and the line can differ by job.

Prep sites report that BCG saw three bands: Highly Recommended, Recommended and Not Recommended. No official source confirms these labels, and other employers may use different ones or none.

Employers also combine the games with later stages. Kraft Heinz's 2027 UK trainee listing, for example, puts the pymetrics games straight after the application and a short pre-recorded video interview after that, for those who pass the games.

How long do pymetrics results last?

pymetrics' 2018 FAQ said only your first results would be used, and its terms of service say you may play each game once in any 12-month period. Prep sites add that your results are reused for about 330 days when you apply to other employers that use pymetrics, without a retake. No official source confirms the 330-day figure.

Finishing matters too. In the data described in pymetrics' research paper, players who missed more than 2 of the 12 games were treated as incomplete. You cannot pause in the middle of a game, so start each one only when you can finish it.

What to do if you are rejected after pymetrics

  1. Do not read the trait report as a verdict on you. It describes how you played. The decision came from a model built for one job, and the same play could fit another job well.
  2. Ask the employer for feedback. Keep it short and polite. Some employers share more than others, and some only tell you yes or no.
  3. Ask whether your results will be reused. If you apply to another employer that uses pymetrics, ask whether it will use your existing results or invite you to play again.
  4. Do not open a second account. pymetrics' terms allow one account and one play per game in 12 months, so a second account breaks rules you have already accepted.
  5. Prepare for the other stages. Many employers pair the games with video interviews or other tests, and those can be practised in the usual way.

If you have not yet played, our guide to pymetrics games answers explains why copied strategies can backfire, and the pymetrics balloon game score guide covers the most-searched game.

Practising the formats

Candidate Falcon's pymetrics practice has independent simulations of all 16 games, rebuilt from the research tasks in pymetrics' public patents and from prep-site descriptions, with original art and wording. They are not the real games. The review after each game describes how you played in our own words; it is not a pymetrics trait report or fit score. The games come with the Harver platform in our plans; see pricing.

FAQs

How do I see my pymetrics results?

pymetrics and Harver say candidates receive a report with results and feedback at the end. Prep sites say some employers share only a yes or no. If you received nothing, check your email and ask the employer.

What is a good pymetrics score?

There is no published good score or pass mark. The employer sees a fit score from 0 to 100% for its own job model, so a strong fit for one job says little about another.

What traits does pymetrics measure?

Harver lists nine categories: attention, decision making, effort, emotion, fairness, focus, generosity, learning and risk tolerance. pymetrics' 2018 FAQ spoke of more than 50 traits, and prep sites count about 90.

Do pymetrics results carry over to other employers?

Prep sites say results are reused for about 330 days, without a retake, but no official source gives that figure. pymetrics' terms allow each game to be played once in any 12-month period.

Can I retake pymetrics after a rejection?

Not to improve your result. pymetrics' candidate FAQ said only your first results are used, and its terms ban replaying a game within 12 months and opening a second account.
