pymetrics Shapes Practice: Find the Shape Hidden in the Figure

Practise the pymetrics Shapes game: 10 line figures, each hiding one of four shapes the same way up, 45 seconds each, with the answer highlighted after.

Practice: 10 items, 45 seconds eachAlso called “pymetrics shapes game”Also called “pymetrics hidden shapes game”

How the practice module works

  1. 01Each item shows a complex line figure and four small shapes.
  2. 02Exactly one shape is hidden in the figure at the same size and the same way up. Its lines may be parts of longer lines.
  3. 03Turned or mirrored copies do not count. Pick the hidden shape by click, tap or keys 1–4; your first choice counts.
  4. 04You have 45 seconds per item. At the end the hidden shape is highlighted in every figure.

Controls

  • Click or tap a shape

What the pymetrics Shapes game looks at

Shapes is one of four numerical and logical games that some employers add to the 12 core pymetrics games, alongside Magnitudes, Sequences and Letters. pymetrics’ own research paper mentions an additional suite of numerical and logical reasoning games; the name Shapes and the format come from prep-site descriptions. Unlike the core games, it has right answers.

Prep sites describe a classic embedded-figures task: a complex line drawing and a small shape, which you must find inside the drawing without rotating it, over 10 items with 45 seconds each. The skill is seeing past the extra lines that break the shape up, and checking orientation carefully.

pymetrics does not publish its figures or scoring. In this practice every figure is generated on a grid, so a shape either sits exactly on the figure’s lines or does not, and a check makes sure exactly one of the four shapes is hidden. Wrong options include turned or mirrored copies of the answer and near-misses with one line moved.

How the Shapes practice works

  1. Each item shows a complex line figure and four small shapes, drawn at the figure’s scale.
  2. Find the one shape hidden in the figure the same way up. Its lines may be parts of longer lines in the figure.
  3. Pick it by click, tap or keys 1 to 4. Your first choice counts.
  4. You have 45 seconds per item. At the end you see every figure with the hidden shape highlighted.

Shapes tips

  • Start from the shape’s most unusual feature, such as a diagonal next to a corner, and look for that first.
  • Check orientation before you answer: a shape turned a quarter turn or flipped is a deliberate trap.
  • Remember that the shape’s lines can continue beyond it in the figure; do not reject a spot because a line runs on.
  • Rule out options quickly: if a shape has a feature the figure never shows, it cannot be the answer.
  • Use the time: 45 seconds is enough to check a candidate line by line.

Common Shapes mistakes

  • Choosing a rotated or mirrored copy of the hidden shape.
  • Rejecting the right spot because the figure has extra lines crossing it.
  • Answering on a partial match without checking every line.
  • Spending the whole clock on one candidate instead of ruling out the others.

A short Shapes practice routine

  1. Do one run and look at the highlighted answers for every item you missed.
  2. Count how often you picked a turned or mirrored copy; if it is more than once, slow down on orientation.
  3. Do another run starting each item from the shape’s most distinctive corner.
  4. Before the real assessment, read your invitation: only some employers add the numerical and logical games.

Shapes FAQ

What is the pymetrics Shapes game?

It is one of the extra logical games some employers add to the pymetrics battery. Prep sites describe it as finding a small shape hidden in a complex figure, without rotation, over 10 items with 45 seconds each.

Can the hidden shape be rotated or flipped?

No. Prep sites describe the shape as embedded without rotation, and in this practice a turned or mirrored copy is always wrong. The shape is also the same size as in the figure.

Does every employer use the Shapes game?

No. The 12 core pymetrics games are the standard battery. Prep sites report that some employers add four numerical and logical games: Magnitudes, Sequences, Shapes and Letters.

Is this the real pymetrics game?

No. It is independent practice by Candidate Falcon with original, generated figures. It is not affiliated with pymetrics or Harver, and the practice score is not a pymetrics score.

Independent practice by Candidate Falcon, based on pymetrics’ public patents and research and on prep-site descriptions. Not affiliated with pymetrics or Harver, and not their scoring.
