pymetrics Number Sequences Practice with Every Rule Explained

Practise the pymetrics Sequences game: 12 number series with a missing number, 30 seconds each, four options and the rule behind every series explained.

Practice: 12 items, 30 seconds eachAlso called “pymetrics sequences game”Also called “pymetrics number sequence game”

How the practice module works

  1. 01Each item shows a series of numbers with one missing, marked with a question mark.
  2. 02Work out the rule and pick the missing number from four options. Your first choice counts.
  3. 03You have 30 seconds per item. When the clock runs out the item counts as skipped and the next one appears.
  4. 04At the end you see the rule behind every series, worked out step by step.

What the pymetrics Sequences game looks at

Sequences is one of four numerical and logical games that some employers add to the 12 core pymetrics games, alongside Magnitudes, Shapes and Letters. pymetrics’ own research paper mentions an additional suite of numerical and logical reasoning games; the name Sequences and the format come from prep-site descriptions. Unlike the core games, it has right answers.

A prep site describes a series of numbers with one missing and a time limit of 30 seconds per item, over 12 items. The task is to see the rule quickly: a fixed step, a step that grows, a multiplication, two steps taking turns or two series woven together. The arithmetic is simple; the skill is trying the likely rules in a good order.

pymetrics does not publish its rules or its scoring. This practice uses common number-series patterns, gives you 30 seconds per item and checks that only one of the four options fits any common pattern, so each item has one defensible answer. The review explains the rule behind every series.

How the Sequences practice works

  1. Each item shows a series of numbers with one missing, marked with a question mark.
  2. Pick the missing number from four options by click, tap or keys 1 to 4. Your first choice counts.
  3. You have 30 seconds per item. When the clock runs out the item counts as not answered.
  4. There is no feedback during the run. At the end you see your score, accuracy by kind of rule and every rule explained.

Sequences tips

  • Write or picture the differences between neighbouring numbers first: most rules show up there.
  • If the differences grow, look at the differences of the differences.
  • If the numbers grow fast, try ratios: ×2, ×3, or ×2 then add a number.
  • If the series zigzags, look at every other number: two series may be woven together, or two steps may take turns.
  • Check a missing number in the middle against the number after the gap too, not only the one before.
  • If you are stuck after about 20 seconds, pick the most likely option: an unanswered item scores nothing.

Common Sequences mistakes

  • Repeating the last difference when the differences are growing.
  • Continuing the neighbouring series in a woven pattern instead of the number two places back.
  • Forgetting the second part of a rule such as ×2 then +3.
  • Letting the clock run out instead of making a best guess.

A short Sequences practice routine

  1. Do one run and note which kinds of rule cost you the most.
  2. Read the step-by-step rule for every item you got wrong or did not answer.
  3. Practise the habit: differences first, then ratios, then every other number.
  4. Do another run aiming to answer every item with time to spare.

Sequences FAQ

What is the pymetrics Sequences game?

It is one of the extra numerical and logical games some employers add to the pymetrics battery. A prep site describes it as finding the missing number in a series, over 12 items with 30 seconds each.

What kind of number series are in the pymetrics sequences test?

pymetrics does not publish its rules. This practice covers common patterns: fixed steps, growing steps, multiplying or halving, two steps taking turns, two series woven together, squares and cubes, sums of the two previous numbers and multiply-then-add.

Does every employer use the Sequences game?

No. The 12 core pymetrics games are the standard battery. Prep sites report that some employers add four numerical and logical games: Magnitudes, Sequences, Shapes and Letters.

Is this the real pymetrics game?

No. It is independent practice by Candidate Falcon with generated series. It is not affiliated with pymetrics or Harver, and the practice score is not a pymetrics score.

Independent practice by Candidate Falcon, based on pymetrics’ public patents and research and on prep-site descriptions. Not affiliated with pymetrics or Harver, and not their scoring. The game, its art and its wording are original, and practice results are not pymetrics scores. For all 12 games, timing, results and retakes, read the free pymetrics test guide.
