Cappfinity SST Practice: Rank Five Actions for Each Workplace Scenario

Practise a Cappfinity-style Situational Strengths Test: rank five actions for 16 untimed workplace scenarios and see a strengths profile from our own model.

Practice: 16 scenarios, untimedAlso called “SST”Also called “Cappfinity situational judgement test”

How the practice module works

  1. 01Each scenario describes a moment from a graduate’s first months at work, with five actions you could take.
  2. 02Rank the actions from the one you would most likely take (1) to the one you would least likely take (5). Each action gets its own rank, so there are no ties.
  3. 03Tap an action to give it the next rank. Tap a ranked action to take it back out, or use the arrows to reorder.
  4. 04There is no timer. Answer as you would really act: your result is a strengths profile from Candidate Falcon’s own model, and there is no answer key.

Controls

  • Tap an action to give it the next rank
  • Tap a ranked action to take it back out
  • Move up / Move down arrows to reorder
  • Next once all five are ranked

What the Cappfinity Situational Strengths Test looks at

The Situational Strengths Test (SST) is the behavioural ranking task in Cappfinity assessments. You read a short workplace scenario and put the possible responses in order, from the action you would most likely take to the one you would least likely take. Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub, Deloitte, HSBC and Shoosmiths describe this task, and Aviva and M&G use the name “situational strengths”. The same behavioural family can also ask you to choose the single most appropriate response, place yourself on a scale, sort responses into groups, write an answer or record a video.

Cappfinity looks at strengths through Performance (how well you do something), Energy (how much it energises you) and Use (how often you do it), and advises candidates to answer honestly instead of guessing what the employer wants. It publishes no answer key. Its G-Cloud listing mentions pass, consider and fail data, which suggests employers can sort results into bands, but how each response is weighted is not public, and real scenarios are often set in the employer’s own workplace.

Candidate Falcon’s practice uses 30 original scenarios set in a UK graduate’s first months at work: team work, clients, deadlines, mistakes, feedback, change, ethics, learning and workload. Each action maps to one or two of eight strengths in our own model (Collaboration, Initiative, Adaptability, Integrity, Client focus, Organisation, Learning and Resilience), and your result shows which strengths your rankings favoured. It helps you get used to the format and reflect on how you work; it does not predict a Cappfinity outcome.

How the Situational Strengths Test practice works

  1. Read the scenario and all five actions before you rank anything.
  2. Tap the action you would most likely take: it becomes number 1. Keep tapping until all five actions have a rank.
  3. Use the arrows to swap neighbouring actions, or tap a ranked action to take it back out.
  4. Next stays disabled until all five actions are ranked. There is no timer.
  5. After 16 scenarios, review your strengths profile and, scenario by scenario, the strength behind each action.

Situational Strengths Test tips

  • Answer as you would really act at work, not as you think a recruiter wants you to. Cappfinity asks for honest answers.
  • Read every action first. Several can be reasonable, so the task is about order, not spotting one good answer.
  • Settle your first and last choices, then order the middle three.
  • Picture yourself in the role you applied for: real scenarios are often set in the employer’s own workplace.
  • Read the employer’s careers pages before the real test so the setting feels familiar, then still answer as yourself.

Common Situational Strengths Test mistakes

  • Ranking by what sounds most impressive instead of what you would actually do.
  • Rushing because there is no timer and the actions look alike.
  • Treating the test as if one order is the answer: Cappfinity publishes no key.
  • Memorising “model answers” from prep sites. Any key you find is that site’s own view, not Cappfinity’s.
  • Ignoring the setting: an action that suits one role or team may not suit another.

A short Situational Strengths Test practice routine

  1. Play one run, then read the scenario recap: which strengths did your first choices favour?
  2. Compare the profile with how you see yourself, and note a real example for each of your top strengths. They help in strengths-based video interviews too.
  3. Play another run a few days later and see whether your rankings stay consistent.
  4. Before the real test, try the free practice on Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub or your employer’s Cappfinity-powered hub.

Situational Strengths Test FAQ

What is the Cappfinity Situational Strengths Test?

It is a behavioural module in Cappfinity assessments. You read a workplace scenario and rank the possible responses from the action you would most likely take to the least likely. Aviva and M&G call it a situational strengths test, and Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub, Deloitte, HSBC and Shoosmiths describe the same ranking task.

Is the Cappfinity SST timed?

Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub and the Deloitte and HSBC hubs say behavioural modules are untimed, apart from written and video answers. Some prep sites claim that response speed is recorded; no official source confirms it. Candidate Falcon’s practice has no timer.

How many scenarios and options are there?

Cappfinity does not publish a count, and it may vary by employer. Prep-site samples show five options per scenario, JobTestPrep reports 16 scenarios in the version it attributes to EY, and one Deloitte candidate reported 22 in 2016. Candidate Falcon’s practice uses 16 scenarios with five actions each.

Is there a right answer in the Situational Strengths Test?

Cappfinity publishes no answer key and asks candidates to answer honestly rather than second-guess the employer, and the FCA says its practice assessment has no right or wrong answers. Cappfinity’s G-Cloud listing mentions pass, consider and fail data, so employers can probably sort results into bands, but how responses are weighted is not public.

How does Candidate Falcon score the practice?

With its own model, not Cappfinity’s. Each action maps to one or two of eight strengths. Ranking an action 1st gives its strengths 5 points, down to 1 point for 5th, and each strength’s total is divided by the number of times it was on offer. The result is a strengths profile, never a pass or fail.

Is the SST the same as a situational judgement test?

Many candidates call it the Cappfinity situational judgement test, and both use workplace scenarios. Official descriptions of the Cappfinity task ask you to rank responses by how likely you are to take them, and frame the results as strengths. The same behavioural family can also ask you to choose the single most appropriate response.
