Cappfinity Numerical Reasoning Practice: Pick, Insert and Rank Questions

Practise Cappfinity-style numerical reasoning: 12 Pick, Insert and Rank questions on tables and charts, a time-taken clock and worked solutions.

Practice: 12 questions, no time limit; the time you take is recordedAlso called “Capp numerical”Also called “Cappfinity numerical reasoning test”

How the practice module works

  1. 01Each question comes with one table or bar chart. Some of its data is not needed, so find the figures the question asks for.
  2. 02Answer in one of three ways: pick one of five options, type a number (the question gives the unit and the rounding), or rank five items from A to E.
  3. 03There is no time limit, but a Time taken clock runs. Cappfinity’s demo says its reasoning tests are time-recorded and that the score combines accuracy with the time you take.
  4. 04Use your own calculator, pen and paper, as Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub and the employer hubs recommend.
  5. 05In this practice you cannot go back to a question, so check each answer before you move on.

Controls

  • Click or tap an option, then Next question
  • Keys 1–5 also choose a Pick option
  • Type a number in the answer box for Insert questions
  • Tap items in order to rank them, arrows to reorder

What the Cappfinity Numerical Reasoning test looks at

Cappfinity’s numerical reasoning test asks workplace questions about data. In Cappfinity’s public demo, each question has a short scenario next to one exhibit, an Excel-style table or a bar chart, and the exhibit holds more data than the question needs. You answer in one of three ways: pick one of five options, type a number into an answer box where the question states the unit (for example £), or drag five items into order.

The HSBC and Deloitte preparation hubs list the skills as multiplication, division, decimals, percentages and ratios, and the demo questions ask for a rate per item, the share of a target still to reach and a discounted price. Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub and the Deloitte, HSBC and FCA hubs say a calculator, pen and paper are allowed and recommended.

The demo calls Cappfinity’s reasoning tests time-recorded rather than time-limited: you can take as long as you need, but the overall score combines the accuracy of your answers with the time you take. Deloitte says its numerical module is time factored but not time limited, and Aviva says the time on each question counts alongside accuracy. The FCA is the exception: a 2024 FCA video says its online assessment has no time limit and that time is not scored. Employers choose the modules, so check your invitation.

How the Numerical Reasoning practice works

  1. Read the scenario and the question, then find the figures you need in the table or chart. Some columns or series are not needed.
  2. Pick: choose one of five options with a click, a tap or keys 1 to 5, then press Next question.
  3. Insert: type a number in the answer box. The question gives the unit and the rounding, and “£1,234.50”, “1234.5” and “12%” are all accepted.
  4. Rank: tap the five items in order, starting with the one that ranks first, and fine-tune with the arrows. Tap a ranked item to take it back out.
  5. There is no countdown. A Time taken clock counts up, and there is no Previous button, so check each answer before you move on.
  6. After question 12 you see your accuracy, total and median time, results by format and topic, and a worked solution for every question.

Numerical Reasoning tips

  • Read the question before the exhibit, so you know which row, column or series you need.
  • For a percentage change, divide the change by the starting value, not the final one.
  • Check the unit and the rounding before you type an Insert answer: pounds or pence, a percentage or a count.
  • For a share of a total, add up only the column or row the question names.
  • For Rank questions, work out all five values on paper first, then enter the order.
  • Estimate first. If your answer is far from the estimate, check your method before you move on.

Common Numerical Reasoning mistakes

  • Dividing a change by the final value instead of the starting value.
  • Using data the question does not need, such as last year’s total or the vacancies.
  • Typing an Insert answer in the wrong unit, or rounding to the wrong number of decimal places.
  • Rounding too early in a two-step calculation.
  • Taking a simple mean of rates when the question needs a weighted average.
  • Getting stuck on one question when the time you take is recorded.

A short Numerical Reasoning practice routine

  1. Try the three example numerical questions in Cappfinity’s free demo to see its screens.
  2. Do one run here at your own pace and note which format and topic cost you the most.
  3. Read the worked solution for every question you got wrong or skipped.
  4. Do another run, aiming to keep your accuracy while bringing your median time down.
  5. Before the real test, read your invitation and your employer’s preparation hub for its timing rules.

Numerical Reasoning FAQ

What is the Cappfinity numerical reasoning test?

A test of working with workplace data. In Cappfinity’s demo each question comes with one table or bar chart, and you answer by picking one of five options, typing a number or ranking five items. The HSBC and Deloitte hubs list multiplication, division, decimals, percentages and ratios as the skills involved.

Is the Cappfinity numerical test timed?

Cappfinity’s demo says its reasoning tests are time-recorded rather than time-limited: there is no countdown, but the overall score combines accuracy with the time you take. Deloitte and Aviva say time counts; the FCA says its online assessment has no time limit and time is not scored.

How many questions does the Cappfinity numerical test have?

Cappfinity does not publish a count. Prep sites report 12 (JobTestPrep) or 12 to 15 (GraduatesFirst), and Deloitte’s hub gives about 12 minutes on average for its numerical module. Candidate Falcon’s practice uses 12 questions.

Can I use a calculator in the Cappfinity numerical test?

Yes. Cappfinity’s Preparation Hub and the Deloitte, HSBC and FCA preparation hubs say a calculator, pen and paper are allowed and recommended.

Is the Cappfinity numerical test adaptive?

Some prep sites claim it is, but no official source says so. Candidate Falcon’s practice does not adapt: every run has 4 Pick, 4 Insert and 4 Rank questions.

Is this the real Cappfinity test?

No. It is independent practice by Candidate Falcon, based on Cappfinity’s public demo and employer guidance. It is not affiliated with Cappfinity and does not use its questions or scoring. For Cappfinity’s own examples, try its free demo.
