Are HireVue games stressful because of timing or because of uncertainty?

which one tends to hurt candidates more during HireVue games - strict timing or not knowing what is really being measured?

Untimely pressure is the bigger hit: strict timing tends to hurt more than the unknowns about what’s measured, because you can’t adjust what you don’t know you’re doing. In my HireVue for a product-manager role, there were 5 questions, about 60 seconds to prep and roughly 2 minutes to answer each, with a visible countdown. The uncertainty about metrics mattered, but the time constraint amplified nerves and rushed answers. What helped: treat each answer as a mini-story (Situation, Task, Action, Result), narrate what you’re evaluating as you go, and keep a crisp takeaway. Practice with a timer, use a quick template, and record mock sessions to spot rushed or vague segments. Next step: run timed mock HireVue with real prompts or practice questions.

Uncertainty hurts more than timing. In a software engineer internship HireVue game, unclear scoring caused more anxiety than strict timers.
